Edmonds-Woodway High School Music Boosters

Letter from President

A letter from Jennifer Castle, our Acting Music Boosters President:

At the ESD Board Meeting last night (5/23/23), we heard several impactful messages about the true significance of music education and other programs in our district. Those who chose to speak out included students, teachers, school building administrators, and community members.

Speakers made it clear that the district leadership’s program cuts, as they are currently structured, will have profoundly negative effects on community, safety and equitable access in our schools.

We recently learned that Central District Office has increased staff 16.4% over the last five years and is currently recruiting a manager of assessment, with a salary the equivalent of 1.5 full-time teachers!

Advocacy works! Madrona K-8 restored their Orchestra program just last week as a result of community action.  We are so thankful that these young musicians will have the chance to keep developing their skills in this valuable program in the coming school year.

Please speak out! Attend the next ESD Board meeting. Write letters to the Board members and Administration. We need to keep music front and center in the Board’s mind. The fight is not over!!
