About EWHS Bands

EWHS Warrior Band Handbook 2024/25

The Edmonds-Woodway High School (EWHS) Band is one of the Northwest’s premier high school music organizations and a key part in the successful Edmonds-Woodway Music Department. Directed by Mr. Bergevin, the BAND program serves the community playing numerous high quality performances for appreciative audiences.

Music groups include three concert bands, three jazz bands, a combined Marching/Pep Band of over 150 musicians, drumline and many small ensembles including a thriving jazz combo lineup.

While the focus of the program is on learning and service, the band has enjoyed traveling including tours to New Orleans, New York, Florida, Georgia, California, Europe and more.

The Jazz Program has enjoyed many successes. They are past participants in the Essentially Ellington Contest in 2013, 2010, 2007 and 2003. They have performed at Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Disneyworld and featured annually by Starbucks at the Hot Java Cool Jazz Concert Series.  The group performs entertaining, mature music without a heavy emphasis on attending many local competitions.

EWHS Music Department has been acknowledged a Grammy Signature School for Outstanding Music Department. Mr. Bergevin has been recognized as a quarter finalist in the Grammy Music Educator of the Year awards.

Past guest artists and lecturers include Jeff Hamilton, Bobby Shew, Phil Woods, Eric Alexander, Aaron Parks, Cuong Vu, Allen Vizutti, Victor Goines, Marcus Printup, Andre Hayward, Wessel Anderson, Walter Blanding Jr., Brian Lynch and many others. Jazz Students rehearse at zero period daily and are also playing in the co-requisite classical ensembles as part of the greater Music Department.

The program’s greatest strength is the students’ enthusiasm and ability to work together. The Music Boosters organization has helped to keep EWHS BANDS healthy and vibrant.
